The ceremony of the 3rd Fudan-Zhongzhi Science Award and the 4th Fudan Science and Innovation Forum was held in Shanghai on December 16th,2018. with the world’s top astronaut and scientists gathering to discuss and exchange their views on the cutting edge of global technology and innovation trends.

Prof. Ingrid Daubechies, the winner of the 2018 Fudan-Zhongzhi Science Award and the member of the American Academy for Arts and Sciences, attended the ceremony and gave a report, “A Few Mathematical Chapters”.

Professor Samuel Chao Chung Ting, the famous experimental physicist, winner of the 1976 Nobel Prize in Physics, and chair of the Fudan-Zhongzhi Science Award Committee, announced the winner of the 3rd Fudan-Zhongzhi Science Award.

The two keynote lectures, “An Introduction to China’s Manned Space Program” and “From Computers to Atoms and Back”, were given respectively by Mr. Yang Liwe, China’s First Astronaut in Space, and Professor Michele Parrinello, member of the National Academy of Sciences in 2010 and the winner of Dirac Medal, who shared with the audience the state-of-the-art research discoveries and innovations.

Also present at the forum were Professor Xu Ningsheng, president of Fudan University and member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Mr. Zhang Long, president of Zhongzhi Enterprise Group (sponsor of the Award). Sir John Macleod Ball, the former President of the International Mathematical Union and  Professor Vaughan Jones, the laureate of Fields Medal presented the award certificate and trophy to the winner.

The Fudan-Zhongzhi Science Award was jointly founded by Fudan University and Zhongzhi Enterprise Group in 2015, to give unrivalled recognition to global scientists who have made fundamental and distinguished achievements in the fields of Mathematics, Physics and Biomedicine. The winner of the 3rd award, which is for distinguished mathematician, was announced this July. The winner will have a prize offered by Zhongzhi totaling ¥3,000,000, alongside certificate and trophy.

The Fudan Science and Innovation Forum, hosted by Fudan University, organized by Fudan Institute for Advanced Study, and sponsored by Zhongzhi Enterprise Group, was launched in 2015 in response to the nation’s innovation-driven development strategy. The Forum has the aim of promoting Shanghai’s transformation into a science and innovation hub with global influence by building up an international platform for intellectual exchange and sharing that is focused on the global technology frontiers and innovation trends.

The 3-day forum, consisted of a main forum and four sub-forums, was attended by over 400 guests who are active members of global academic, business and political communities, with themes ranging from data science, physics, innovation and entrepreneurship, and symposium on functional and molecular imaging.
